Hello! I’m Percival Gill, a proud farmer from the Mission village in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up amidst the lush greenery and vibrant culture of this area, I have developed a deep appreciation for the land and its fruits. Whether it’s cultivating the iconic Essequibo rice or tending to the myriad of tropical fruits like golden apples and coconuts, each day offers a new opportunity to connect with the earth.
My roots run deep in this community, where the rhythms of life are intertwined with the Pomeroon River, often referred to lovingly by locals as our lifeline. The warmth of my neighbors and the rich traditions we share, from food to folklore, inspire my work and my life. I take pride in sharing our culinary delights, including the famous pepperpot and metemgee, with family and friends—each meal is a celebration of our heritage.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections we maintain with our fellow countrymen abroad. It fills my heart with joy to see others embrace our culture, and I often reflect on the comments and experiences shared by my fellow Guyanese in the diaspora, reminding me that no matter where we are, our roots and community will always be part of who we are.
