Hello! My name is Joseph George, and I’m a proud farmer living in Portion Manawarin Borahara, located in the scenic Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery of the Pomeroon River, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the land and its abundance. I cultivate various crops, including rice and cassava, while embracing traditional farming methods that have been passed down through generations. The rhythm of the seasons and the vibrant culture of my community continually inspire my work.
As a Guyanese, I cherish our rich heritage, which is reflected in our culinary delights like pepper pot, metemgee, and fresh fish straight from the river. Whether it's celebrating special occasions with family or sharing a meal with neighbors, food remains a vital part of our social fabric. Despite the challenges we face, such as crime and economic shifts, I believe in the resilience of our people. Many of us, like those who have happily escaped to other countries, continue to connect through our shared experiences and stories.
In addition to my farming endeavors, I stay linked to the diaspora community, engaging with fellow Guyanese who are making their mark abroad. Their successes motivate me to uphold our cultural values and traditions here at home. The warmth and spirit of our people, whether in Guyana or in the diaspora, remind me that we are all part of a larger family, united by our roots and aspirations.
