About SIMEON JOSEPH

About Simeon Joseph

Greetings from Haimaracabra, nestled in the beautiful Barima-Waini region of Guyana! My name is Simeon Joseph, and I am a proud farmer dedicated to cultivating the rich, fertile land that has sustained our communities for generations. There’s nothing quite like the taste of fresh cassava and plantains, which we often enjoy with a side of pepperpot, a dish that tells the story of our diverse heritage. The rhythms of the Pomeroon River resonate deeply with my work and life, reminding me of the endless beauty that our landscape has to offer.

Living in a land of breathtaking rivers and vibrant flora, I find joy in the simple things—whether it's taking a moment to appreciate the peacefulness at Lower Pom River or gathering with friends to share stories of our days. The connection to our land and culture is strong, and though I know many of our brothers and sisters in the diaspora feel their hearts ache with longing when they think of home, I strive to share the warmth of our community with every harvest. Here in Haimaracabra, we celebrate the rich traditions that define us, embracing the heritage passed down through generations.

As we open our arms to new visitors, it’s a time of transition for Guyana. With the recent changes brought about by oil exploration, I see a mix of excitement and uncertainty in our communities. While we welcome the diversity that comes with tourism, it’s essential for us to remember our roots and maintain the essence of what makes us uniquely Guyanese. Together, we can ensure that our culture thrives while introducing others to the beauty of our homeland, from the treasures of the Wakapau to the serenity of the River Waipaqua.
