Hello! I’m June Van Sluytman, a proud resident of Pom River Grant Enterprise in the picturesque Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up along the banks of the Pomeroon River, I developed a deep appreciation for our lush landscapes and vibrant culture. My childhood was filled with the sounds of the river, the taste of fresh cassava bread, and the rich aromas of our local dishes, which are truly a slice of heaven. I’m passionate about connecting with our diaspora community. Many of us share fond memories of visiting local landmarks such as the Essequibo River and the bustling markets of Georgetown, where the lively atmosphere perfectly captures the spirit of our people. Though I’ve heard some debate over whether Guyanese cuisine can hold its own against Trinidadian dishes, my heart will always belong to the flavors of home, which I believe are unmatched. In my view, our culinary heritage is a testament to our diverse roots and a source of immense pride.
