Hello! I’m Kamal Shaw, a proud resident of La Bagatelle Leguan in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Our vibrant culture is a blend of influences that make us unique, from our delicious pepperpot and curry to the sweet taste of black cake during the holidays. Whether it’s enjoying a relaxing afternoon by the Essequibo River or partaking in lively festivals like Mashramani, I cherish every moment spent in my homeland. As they say, "Mi deh yah!" (I am here!), and I carry that spirit with me wherever I go.
Growing up in Guyana has taught me the value of community and connection. Being part of the diaspora, I often reminisce about our local customs and the warmth of our people. I love hearing stories from fellow Guyanese about their experiences abroad—like how we sometimes chuckle over mispronounced names and words (I’m guilty of it too!). It's these shared experiences that keep our culture alive, no matter where life takes us.
As I continue my journey, I remain deeply connected to my roots. From cooking traditional meals for my family to sharing tales of our beautiful landscapes, I hope to foster a sense of belonging and pride within the Guyanese community, both at home and beyond.
