Hello! I’m Kapildeo Jaikaran, a proud labourer from the vibrant community of Coast Demerara at 73 Prem Nagar in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always been surrounded by the rich cultural heritage that defines our nation. From the lively rhythms of chutney and calypso music to the tantalizing aromas of our beloved Dhal Puri—stuffed with chickpeas and served with a side of our famous curry—food is an integral part of our identity. Each dish tells a story, connecting generations and reminding us of our roots.
As a member of a diverse community, I take pride in the distinctiveness of our ethnic groups. Whether it’s the celebrations of Diwali, Eid, or the vibrant festivals that bring everyone together, our multicultural landscape fosters a sense of belonging. I cherish the Hindi language and the music that many of us still enjoy, even if we don't always grasp the lyrics! This connection to our past shapes our present and future, and it’s something I’m eager to share with others, especially those from the diaspora who hold fond memories of home.
In my spare time, I love exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Guyana, from the lush rainforests to the tranquil rivers like the Pomeroon. There’s so much beauty here, and I believe it’s essential to showcase our country beyond the surface.
