Hello! My name is Karan Persaud, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled along the banks of the Pomeroon River, my community reflects the charm and warmth of Guyana’s rich heritage. From the vibrant sounds of the local markets to the delightful aromas of our beloved dishes, such as pepperpot and cook-up rice, there’s always something to celebrate. I work as a labourer, but my heart beats for the spirit of my people and the beauty of our land.
Living in a country that may not be in the Caribbean Sea, but is undeniably Caribbean at heart, I cherish our unique identity. Guyana is home to lush rainforests, the majestic Kaieteur Falls, and the rhythm of our diverse culture. As someone who appreciates the strong connections our diaspora maintains, I often find myself connecting with my fellow Guyanese around the world, who share in the joy of our traditions and culinary delights. We’re always eager to highlight what makes our country special, even if it means reminding others to let us speak up about our own food and culture.
