Hello! I’m Karen John, a dedicated teacher based in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My passion for education is deeply rooted in my love for our vibrant culture and community. Growing up in a country where the lush landscapes meet the mighty Essequibo River, I’ve always believed in fostering a sense of belonging and pride among my students as we explore our shared heritage.
As a Guyanese, I embrace the rich mosaic of our culinary delights, from the beloved pepperpot—a dish steeped in tradition—to the spicy curries that remind us of our Indian roots. We’re a nation that celebrates diversity, with a blend of cultures that makes our festivals, music, and food unique. I often share these experiences with my students, encouraging them to appreciate their identity, whether it’s exploring the scenic beauty of the Irokramq Lodge or discussing the nuances of our history in the diaspora—because we are so much more than what others perceive us to be.
