Hello! My name is Kawattie Rookmin, and I proudly call the beautiful Essequibo Coast home. Nestled in Airy Hall, Essequibo, in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I cherish the vibrant culture and rich heritage that Guyana offers. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes, I have developed a deep appreciation for our diverse traditions and, of course, our delicious Indo-Caribbean cuisine. There's nothing quite like a plate of curry with roti or a steaming bowl of pepperpot to bring back fond memories of family gatherings and celebrations.
As a proud Guyanese, I stay connected to my roots even while witnessing the changing tides of our homeland. It’s heartening to hear stories from fellow compatriots around the world, from those who now call New Zealand home to those reminiscing about their time living in London. I often find myself looking forward to the next visit to Suriname, dreaming of sharing the warmth of our culture with others. Despite the challenges we face back home, I believe in the resilience of our people and the undeniable spirit that unites us.
