Hello! I’m Ken Fraser, a proud sluice attendant hailing from the vibrant community of Pomeroon, nestled in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and rich waters of the Pomeroon River, I have developed a deep appreciation for our natural resources and the vital role they play in our livelihoods. From the sweet taste of ripe golden apples to the comforting warmth of a well-cooked meal of pepperpot, Guyanese culture has instilled in me the values of community and resilience.
In my role, I not only manage the sluices that help maintain the delicate balance of our agricultural lands, but I also engage with the local community to ensure that we work together for a sustainable future. Whether I'm chatting with neighbors about the latest happenings in the area or reminiscing about simpler times on the banks of the river, I find joy in connecting with those around me. This bond is especially important as many of us have family abroad, echoing the sentiment of my fellow diaspora, who fondly remember their roots while navigating new lives elsewhere.
