Hello! I’m Kennard Fortune, a proud farmer from the lush landscapes of Bank Essequibo, specifically in Phase 2 of the New Housing area in Pomeroon-Supenaam. My roots run deep in this beautiful region, where the mighty Pomeroon River flows and the vibrant culture of Guyana thrives. Here, I cultivate a range of crops that not only nourish my community but also connect me to the rich agricultural traditions that have been passed down through generations.
Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always been surrounded by the aromas of our local cuisine, from the spicy pepper pot to the sweet, refreshing cassava pone. These dishes remind me of family gatherings and the importance of sharing meals with loved ones. As I work the land, I often think of the unique blend of cultures that make up our nation—Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences all contribute to our way of life and the flavors we cherish.
Although the landscape may change, and new opportunities arise with developments like oil exploration, my heart remains firmly anchored in the simplicity and beauty of rural life. I enjoy connecting with the diaspora community, sharing stories about our homeland, and discussing the challenges and hopes we have for the future. Together, we celebrate our Guyanese heritage, whether reminiscing about adventures along the Upper Pom River or our dreams for a better tomorrow.
