Greetings! My name is Keoma Fraser, and I come from the vibrant community of Lower Pomeroon, specifically from the beautiful Reliance Housing area on the Essequibo Coast. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and rich waterways that define Guyana, I developed a deep appreciation for our culture, which is as diverse as our scenery. As a mason by trade, I take pride in crafting structures that reflect both modern needs and traditional aesthetics, often drawing inspiration from the stunning architecture found in places like St. George's Cathedral and the historic forts along the coast.
Guyana, once known as British Guiana, holds a special place in my heart. The warmth of our people, the aroma of local delicacies such as pepperpot and fried fish, and the rhythmic beats of our folk music are elements that I carry with me, even here in Regina, Canada. I often reminisce about family gatherings where we celebrate with our unique blend of cultures, a testament to our Amerindian, African, and Indian heritage. Though I now live abroad, my roots remain firmly planted in Guyana. I cherish the connections I've made within the diaspora community, who share similar experiences and memories of our homeland.
