Hello! I’m Kester Miguel, a proud labourer from the vibrant community of St Monica in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery of the Pomeroon River and its beautiful Massarie Island, I have always been deeply connected to the land and its bounties. The rich cultural heritage of my homeland is reflected in everything we do—from the delicious dishes of pepperpot and roti to our lively festivals, celebrating our diverse backgrounds, especially during Phagwah and Mashramani.
The warmth and resilience of our people are what I cherish the most. Whether sharing a meal of fried rice with friends or engaging in spirited conversation about cricket, the bonds we form are deeply rooted in our shared experiences. As I work hard to provide for my family, I keep the spirit of our ancestors alive, knowing that every effort I make contributes to the future of our community. I often reminisce about the communal gatherings by the river, where laughter and stories flow just as freely as the water itself.
For me, being part of the Guyanese diaspora means carrying the essence of our culture with me wherever I go. I strive to represent our unique pronunciations and traditions accurately, ensuring that the stories of places like Essequibo and the Pomeroon River are told with respect and authenticity.
