Greetings from the vibrant heart of Guyana! My name is Kiara Banarsee, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Living along the 15 Public Road in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I am deeply connected to the rich cultural traditions of our land. From the lush green landscapes to the flowing waters of the Yarashirima and the camaraderie of our community, every aspect of my life is infused with the warmth of Guyanese heritage. As a resident of Guyana, I recognize the bittersweet reality many of us face. The diaspora experience has shaped my perspective, as I often hear stories from friends and family who’ve ventured abroad, sharing tales of both success and longing. Despite the challenges we face, I believe in the resilience of our people. As one fellow Guyanese aptly put it, "if people shared your attitude, the country wouldn't be like it is." This spirit of perseverance is what keeps our culture alive, whether it's through our cuisine or the spirited debates about the "worst drivers on Earth"—a testament to our unique humor and camaraderie.
In my daily life, I strive to embody the values that our ancestors instilled in us: respect, community, and a connection to our roots. As I reflect on my journey, I am reminded of the beauty that resides in our country, from the bustling markets of St. Monica to the serene banks of the Pomeroon River.
