Hello! My name is Julita Leanard, and I am proud to call the beautiful community of Waikrebi in Barima-Waini my home. As a dedicated farmer, I thrive on the fertile lands of Guyana, where the rich soil and vibrant rainfall nurture not only crops but also the spirit of our people. My days are spent cultivating a variety of local produce, from the zesty pepper sauces that are a staple at every family gathering to the aromatic herbaceous plants that embody the essence of our culinary heritage. Guyana’s diverse agriculture is a testament to our vibrant culture, and I am honored to be part of this legacy.
Growing up in a nation that is one of the founding fathers of CARICOM, I have always felt a strong connection to our Caribbean identity. Our rich history and cultural traditions are reflected in the powerful flavors of our famous dishes—like pepperpot and cook-up rice—that unite families and friends, whether here in Guyana or in the diaspora. I often hear from Guyanese living abroad, who fondly reminisce about the vibrant markets of Georgetown and the warmth of our community gatherings. Their love for our homeland inspires me as I share our culture with the world.
As I continue to work the land, I cherish the opportunity to engage with fellow farmers and share in the joys and challenges we face together.
