Hello! My name is Leland Edmonds, and I proudly call the River Hoobodie's Settlement in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a farmer, I have deep roots in the lush, fertile lands of Guyana, where the rich soil gives life to not only my crops but also to the vibrant culture that surrounds me. There's nothing quite like the taste of freshly harvested rice or the aroma of pepperpot simmering on a Sunday afternoon, bringing friends and family together in joyous celebration.
Having witnessed the changes in our nation, including our newfound status as a petrostate, I feel a unique connection to the Guyanese diaspora. It's heartening to know that half a million of us are thriving abroad, each carrying a piece of our homeland with them, from the colorful festivals to the rhythm of our music. Whether it's sharing a plate of roti or reminiscing about the bustling streets of Georgetown, these connections remind us of our shared heritage and the spirit of resilience that defines us as a people.
Despite the geographic distance, I often hear comments from fellow Guyanese that resonate deeply, like the pride we feel in our unique accent and the beauty of our land with its hot neighboring countries. As I continue to cultivate my farm and contribute to our local community, I look forward to sharing the stories of our culture and the love for our beloved Guyana with everyone, near and far.
