Greetings! My name is Lelawattie Wyett, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, where my roots run deep along 36 Back Street Cullen, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this vibrant community has shaped my identity, and I cherish our local culture, from the delicious flavors of cook-up rice and pepperpot to the lush landscapes surrounding the Pomeroon River. The natural beauty here is matched only by the warmth of our people, who carry the rich heritage of Guyana in their hearts.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the challenges and triumphs faced by our community, both at home and abroad. Many of us have family members who have migrated in search of better opportunities, forging connections that stretch across oceans. I often reflect on the stories of those who left, like my fellow countryman who experienced the upheaval of the 1969 Rupununi Uprising, and I recognize the impact this has on our society today. With every "barrel" of goods sent from overseas, the bonds between us remain strong, even when distance separates us.
