Hello! My name is Lelon Edwards, and I am proud to call River Jacklow Upper Pom in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a dedicated labourer, I have a deep appreciation for the hard work that goes into building communities and nurturing the land. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve been surrounded by the rich cultural heritage that defines us— from the vibrant festivals celebrating our diverse ethnicities to the mouthwatering flavors of our local cuisine, like pepperpot and roti.
My roots run deep in the lush landscape of the Pomeroon River, where the sounds of nature and the warmth of my neighbors shaped my character. The stories of resilience and strength echo in every corner of my community, reminding me of the tenacity we share. Many of us have found our way to different corners of the world, yet we carry our Guyanese spirit with us, whether in the bustling streets of Virginia or across other distant lands. It's heartwarming to connect with fellow Bhartiya-Guyanese and reminisce about our shared heritage, reminding each other of our roots and the languages that bind us.
As I continue my journey, I remain committed to uplifting my community and sharing the unique vibrancy of Guyana with everyone I meet. Whether it’s through local traditions or simply enjoying a good chat over a plate of fried rice, I strive to foster connections that celebrate where we come from and the strength of our Guyanese identity.
