Greetings from the heart of the Essequibo Coast! My name is Leza Azeez, a proud resident of the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Nestled along the banks of the Pomeroon River, my community is rich in culture and history, where the sound of the river's gentle flow accompanies the daily hustle and bustle. Here, we celebrate our Guyanese heritage through our cuisine, from the aromatic spices of curry to the sweetness of fresh coconut and the beloved cassava bread, a staple at every family gathering.
Living in this beautiful part of Guyana, I cherish our natural wonders, such as the lush greenery and the ample opportunities for fishing, which is almost a rite of passage for many of us. The warmth of our community is reflected in our traditions, where we come together to celebrate festivals and events that highlight our diverse cultures. Whether it's attending the local Independence Day parade or sharing stories of our ancestors around a fire, I am continually inspired by the resilience and spirit of my fellow Guyanese.
