Hello! I’m Leya Beharry, a proud resident of Cecilia Essequibo Coast, where the lush landscapes of Pomeroon-Supenaam blend seamlessly with the vibrant culture of our beloved Guyana. Growing up in this rich environment, I’ve embraced the fascinating mix of ethnicities that defines our nation, from the indigenous peoples to the descendants of indentured laborers from East India and beyond. One of the joys of living here is indulging in our eclectic cuisine, especially the renowned Chinese food that locals rave about. I believe it’s the best in the Caribbean! Whether it’s a family gathering over pepperpot during Christmas or a casual evening with friends enjoying some spicy curry, food plays a crucial role in bringing us together. The scenic beauty of the Pomeroon River and the lively atmosphere of local markets remind me daily of our connection to the land and each other.
As we look to the future, especially with the recent developments in our oil industry, I remain hopeful. Guyana is on the cusp of great things, and I am excited to contribute to this growth while cherishing our cultural roots.
