Greetings! I’m Lochanie Persaud, a passionate teacher residing in the vibrant Pomona Housing Scheme on the Essequibo Coast, in the beautiful region of Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. I have dedicated my career to nurturing young minds, fostering not only academic growth but also a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Guyana, I draw inspiration from the diverse communities that thrive here, blending the unique flavors of our local dishes—like pepperpot and roti—into my teaching philosophy.
Having witnessed the incredible transformation brought about by our diaspora, I believe in the power of education to bridge cultural gaps and inspire future generations. Many locals now connect with family and friends abroad, sharing stories of our homeland while also embracing the influences from the international community. I often remind my students of our shared history and the importance of staying connected to our roots, especially as Guyana continues to evolve with the growth of the oil industry and the influx of visitors to our shores.
When I’m not in the classroom, you can find me exploring the breathtaking natural beauty of our country, from the majestic Kaieteur Falls to the serene banks of the Essequibo River. I cherish the moments spent with family, celebrating our traditions and sharing laughter over a good meal. Through my work and experiences, I aspire to instill pride in our young people about being Guyanese, as we continue to contribute to both our local communities and the wider world.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
