About LOFHEMA PARSOTAM

About Lofhema Parsotam

Greetings! My name is Lofhema Parsotam, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled along the banks of the Pomeroon River, my community is a vibrant blend of cultures, influenced by the rich history of Indigenous peoples, African heritage, and Indian traditions. I cherish the flavors of our local cuisine, from the savory pepperpot to sweet coconut drops, all of which tell the story of our diverse roots. As someone who enjoys gathering with family and friends to celebrate these culinary delights, I believe that food is a powerful connector of people.

Living in the vicinity of landmarks such as Rose Hall and Myrie Island, I find joy in the natural beauty that surrounds us. The Essequibo Coast is not just a place; it's a way of life filled with laughter, community spirit, and the thrill of our emerging potential, especially with the newfound resources in our country. Despite the challenges we face, including the struggle against governmental corruption, I remain optimistic about the future of Guyana. I often reminisce about how my family and I share stories about our cultures to our children, ensuring they appreciate the mosaic of our heritage.

As a resident deeply rooted in my community, I also feel a strong connection to the Guyanese diaspora. Whether it’s through social media interactions or community gatherings, I love hearing tales from fellow Guyanese around the globe who share our experiences. It’s a reminder that no matter where we are, we carry our culture with us, and together, we can inspire progress while celebrating our unique identity. Happy New Year to everyone embracing our culture from near and far!
