Hello! My name is Lorain Patterson-Dev, and I am a proud teacher residing in the vibrant Essequibo Coast, specifically at 75 Back Street Cotton in Pomeroon-Supenaam. My passion for education is deeply rooted in my love for my community and the belief that knowledge can empower our youth to realize their full potential. I strive to create a classroom environment that is not just about textbooks, but also about embracing our rich Guyanese culture—from the taste of a hearty plate of pepperpot to the sounds of soca music during Mashramani celebrations.
As a lifelong resident of Guyana, I take pride in our identity as a Caribbean nation, recognized for signing the Treaty of Chaguaramas and proudly joining CARICOM. This connection is vital, as it reflects our commitment to unity and collaboration with our Caribbean neighbors. I believe in the importance of teaching our students about their heritage, including the beautiful landscapes of the Rupununi savanna and the historical significance of landmarks like St. Chad's Mission, so that they can appreciate the world around them.
In addition to my teaching career, I cherish the bonds within the Guyanese diaspora. It’s heartwarming to see how our community around the world, despite challenges, continues to support and uplift one another. I am dedicated to fostering this spirit of resilience and hospitality, always welcoming others with open arms—a true reflection of what it means to be Guyanese. I look forward to shaping the minds of future generations and helping them navigate the balance between our local culture and the global landscape.
