Hello! I’m Lorita Savory, a dedicated teacher based in Upper Pomeroon River Grant, nestled in the heart of the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My roots run deep in this vibrant community where the rich blend of cultures—Indian, African, European, Chinese, and Indigenous—shapes our daily lives. Just like the diverse landscapes of Guyana, from the lush rainforests to the serene rivers, our community reflects a beautiful mosaic of traditions and backgrounds. I take pride in fostering an environment where all students, whether they speak English or one of the many Creole languages, feel welcomed and valued.
Growing up in Guyana, I have a profound appreciation for our local cuisine, from the spicy curry dishes to the sweet delights of black cake. Food is more than just sustenance for us; it’s a celebration of our heritage and a way to connect with one another. I often share these culinary traditions with my students, encouraging them to explore and embrace our cultural diversity. It’s this shared experience that strengthens our bonds and helps us appreciate the unique stories each of us brings to the table.
As a proud member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the significance of our connections beyond borders. I am committed to educating my students about the broader Guyanese experience, including the stories of those from our interior regions, like the Buffiana people and the “green eyes” community, who embody the spirit of resilience and unity.
