Hello! I’m Lorraine Sankumar, a proud housewife living in the beautiful Essequibo Railway Embankment in Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. Growing up in this vibrant region has deeply influenced my love for our rich culture and traditions. From the lush landscapes to the close-knit community, each day here is a celebration of our way of life, surrounded by warmth and laughter that echoes the spirit of our ancestors.
Food is a huge part of our culture, and there’s nothing quite like a plate of soft chana, especially when you get it from Chana Man in Georgetown—definitely a must-try! I often reminisce about sharing meals with my family, where every dish tells a story. Whether it's a Sunday cook-up with plenty of rice and curry or a festive gathering where we share local delicacies, these moments are what keep our traditions alive.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections we maintain with our roots, even when far from home. I take pride in being a part of a diverse community that thrives on the rich heritage of Guyana, including our Chinese heritage since 1834. It’s my hope to carry forward our customs, sharing our unique stories and flavors with friends and family, both near and far.
