Welcome! My name is Mahendra Persaud, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. As a teacher, I am deeply committed to nurturing the minds of our youth, drawing inspiration from our rich Guyanese heritage. Growing up near the Pomeroon River, I have fond memories of community gatherings filled with laughter, stories, and of course, delicious meals featuring salt fish and bake—one of my absolute favorites.
Living and working in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I have a profound appreciation for the vibrant culture that surrounds us, from the lush landscapes of Lower Pom to the warmth of our neighborhoods, like River Grant and Vergenoegen. As I engage with my students, I often share tales of our local landmarks and the importance of preserving our traditions while embracing the opportunities that lie ahead. I believe that education is not just about academics; it’s about fostering a sense of belonging and identity.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I also recognize the challenges we face, including issues of discrimination that affect communities abroad. However, I remain hopeful and motivated by the strength and resilience that characterize our people. Let’s continue to uplift each other and celebrate our Guyanese roots, whether we’re near the Pomeroon River or far beyond its banks.
