Hello! My name is Mahendra Singh, and I am proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home, specifically the East Side Line Dam in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region. This area is rich in culture, tradition, and a sense of community that I cherish deeply. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and the winding Pomeroon River, I've developed a deep appreciation for our natural resources and the vibrant life they support.
As a resident of this region, I have a love for our local cuisine, which often features favorites like pepperpot, curry, and the freshest fish from our rivers. The flavors here tell stories of our diverse heritage, with influences from Indigenous, African, East Indian, and Creole cultures. I'm also passionate about the importance of community connections, whether it’s celebrating festivals like Mashramani or simply gathering with friends and family for a cookout by the river, sharing laughs and delicious food.
Having a strong connection with the Guyanese diaspora is essential to me. I believe that no matter where we are in the world, our roots in places like Kairimap Creek or Lower Pom River remind us of who we are and where we come from. I look forward to sharing my experiences and learning from others in our global community, as we continue to celebrate our unique heritage together.
