Hello! My name is Marlon Henry, and I am proud to call Mission in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a labourer, I enjoy the satisfaction that comes from hard work, contributing to my community and supporting my family. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of this beautiful country, I've developed a deep appreciation for our local traditions, especially the rich flavors of our cuisine. Whether it's a hearty plate of pepperpot during the holidays or fresh fish fry on a sunny Sunday, food is an integral part of our gatherings and celebrations.
Living here in Pomeroon, I am fortunate to be close to the serene waters of the Pomeroon River, which I often visit for a sense of peace and connection to nature. The area is filled with stories from our ancestors, and I take pride in sharing these tales and traditions with others, ensuring that the younger generation appreciates the cultural heritage of Guyana. As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the mix of pride and confusion that some may feel about our identity. Like many, I once thought Guyana was an island in the Caribbean! But it's this unique blend of South American and Caribbean influences that makes our culture so special. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
