Greetings from the heart of Guyana! My name is Maureen Yearwood, and I proudly serve as a security guard in the vibrant area of Essequibo, specifically at 7 Archer Road in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and rich traditions of this beautiful country, I've developed a deep appreciation for our unique culture, from the spicy aroma of pepperpot during Christmas to the sweetness of our local guava jelly. I believe these flavors and experiences shape us, just as the mighty Essequibo River shapes our land.
While some may view our capital, Georgetown, with a critical eye, I see it as a place full of soul and resilience. Yes, we face challenges, but we also possess a warmth and community spirit that is hard to find elsewhere. Whether it’s gathering at the local market or sharing stories about our multicultural heritage, it’s the people and their experiences that make Guyana special. I firmly believe in the strength of our six races and the rich heritage that comes from our African, Indian, Amerindian, Chinese, Portuguese, and European roots.
