Hello! My name is Maurice Edwards, and I’m proud to call Charity in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a jetman, I spend my days facilitating transportation and logistics that connect our vibrant communities. Growing up here, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our rich culture, from the warmth of our people to the flavorful dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice that unite us during gatherings. We celebrate our heritage with pride, whether it’s at local festivals or simply enjoying a good meal with family and friends.
Guyana may be small, but its spirit is immense. Our connection to the Caribbean is strong; as we often say, “we are Caribbean,” thanks to our involvement in CARICOM and our shared history of resilience. Living near Lethem, I’ve seen firsthand how our region interacts with neighboring countries like Brazil, fostering a unique blend of cultures. It’s not uncommon to hear stories about our history, including the fight for land that resonates within many of us, especially those of Indian descent.
As Guyana stands on the brink of economic transformation with the booming oil industry, I remain hopeful for our future. I believe the upcoming changes will bring opportunities for our youth and enhance the quality of life in our communities. Whether I’m connecting people through my work or sharing stories of our beautiful country, I am dedicated to ensuring that our rich heritage and vibrant culture continue to thrive.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
