Hello! I’m Melanie Stewart, a dedicated clerk living in the picturesque Essequibo region, specifically in Vergenoegen East, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve been fortunate to experience the vibrant culture that comes alive through our rich culinary traditions. Whether it's enjoying a plate of pepper pot with freshly baked bread or gathering with family to celebrate Mashramani, these moments are what keep my roots strong, even as I navigate life away from home.
In my free time, I love connecting with fellow Guyanese, especially those in the diaspora, and sharing stories that bridge our experiences. I often reminisce about the beauty of our landscapes, from the stunning Kaieteur Falls to the lush rainforests that surround us. Despite being miles away, I cherish the sense of community that we share, celebrating our diverse festivals and traditions, regardless of race or religion. As one fellow expatriate beautifully put it, “We celebrate every holiday regardless of religion and race. It’s really nice.”
As I continue my journey, I remain committed to contributing to the improvement of our hometown, echoing the sentiments of many who point out the need for better infrastructure back home. Whether it’s through engaging conversations about our beloved Guyana or cooking up a traditional dish, I carry a piece of my homeland with me, always looking for ways to give back and uplift our community.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
