Hi, I’m Michael Samuels, an operator miner based in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up along the banks of the Pom River, particularly in Grant Paradise, I have deep roots in this vibrant community. The lush landscapes and rich biodiversity of my home inspire my daily work and my commitment to sustainable practices in mining. Whether it's the sounds of the river or the warmth of a neighbor’s smile, these elements are integral to my life and inform how I approach both my profession and my community involvement.
As a proud Guyanese, I cherish our cultural heritage, which is rich with flavors and traditions. Nothing beats a well-prepared plate of metemgee or a hearty bowl of pepperpot, especially when shared with family and friends. I find joy in participating in local festivals that celebrate our diverse backgrounds, and I am always eager to connect with others from the diaspora. Whether it’s reminiscing about the delightful sounds of the tassa drums or the gorgeous views from Boradaro Island, I believe that our shared experiences help strengthen our bonds, no matter where we are in the world.
In my role as an operator miner, I strive to balance progress and preservation. The last five years have seen remarkable advancements in our region, and I am proud to contribute to that growth while advocating for our rich cultural landscapes, such as the River Hackney and the scenic banks of River Koria. I’m excited about the future of Guyana and look forward to playing a part in its ongoing journey of development, all while keeping our traditions alive.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
