Greetings! My name is Moreisa Dash, and I proudly hail from the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Nestled between lush landscapes and the mighty Pomeroon River, my home is rich in culture and diversity. Growing up surrounded by the sounds of our lively music, particularly in the West Indian clubs of Queens and Brooklyn, I have cherished every moment that brings back memories of delicious Dhalpourie paired with curried meat and chutney, and the warmth of community gatherings.
As a proud Guyanese, I believe that our unique blend of cultures—be it Indo-Guyanese, Afro-Guyanese, or Indigenous—shapes our identity. While some may mistakenly categorize us within Caribbean culture, I celebrate that Guyana is a distinct gem in South America. Our traditions, from the celebration of Mashramani to the rich flavors of our local cuisine, reflect our resilience and unity as a people.
