Hello! My name is Munishwar Tihul, and I hail from the vibrant River Western Hogg Island in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. As a farmer, I am deeply connected to the land and the traditions that have been passed down through generations. My days are spent nurturing crops that feed not only my family but also the community around me. The rich flavors of Guyanese cuisine—infused with influences from our First Nations, African heritage, East Indian spices, and British traditions—are a testament to our diverse culture. Whether it's serving up a plate of aromatic curry or sharing a warm bowl of pepperpot, food is at the heart of our connections and celebrations.
Living on the banks of the Pomeroon River allows me to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us, from the lush green landscapes to the melodic sounds of the wildlife. I often reflect on the tales of our ancestors who thrived in this bountiful region. My passion for farming is intertwined with my love for my country, where the promise of a bright future is palpable—especially with the developments that suggest Guyana is set to become the richest country in South America by 2024.
Though I currently reside in Guyana, I am proud to be part of the global Guyanese diaspora. I understand the longing many feel for home, especially when it comes to our beloved dishes like cook-up rice and the joy of sharing stories with loved ones.
