About BASIL VICTOR MURRAY

About Basil Murray

Hello! I’m Basil Murray, a proud farmer hailing from the picturesque village of Barima-Waini in Guyana. Nestled near the lush banks of the Lower Pom River, my life is deeply rooted in the fertile soil that our ancestors have cultivated for generations. Here, we grow a variety of crops, from cassava to plantains, and I take immense pride in contributing to our local food supply. The flavors of my homeland, especially our renowned pepperpot and delectable cook-up rice, remind me daily of the rich culinary heritage that defines our culture.

Being a Guyanese means embracing a unique identity that blends influences from our Indigenous, African, Indian, and European ancestors. Although some debate our connection to the Caribbean, I cherish the camaraderie I share with fellow Guyanese and our diaspora community. Whether it's enjoying the vibrant energy of Mashramani or discussing our territorial integrity in the wake of ongoing challenges, we remain united in our love for this land. I often reminisce about the warmth of our people and the beautiful landscapes, including the majestic Kaieteur Falls, that make Guyana truly special.

As a farmer, I value the importance of sustainability and community. I believe in sharing knowledge with my fellow farmers and learning from each other’s experiences. Guyana may be the "forgotten land" in South America, but our spirit is anything but forgotten. I invite you to connect with me and share in the stories, flavors, and cultural richness that make our nation one of a kind.
