Hello! I’m Nabbie Hoosain, a dedicated laborer based in the serene village of Mission, located along the beautiful Pomeroon River in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My upbringing in this vibrant community has shaped my connection to the land and its people. While I appreciate the lush landscapes that surround me, I also understand the complexities of life in Guyana, where race politics and local governance can affect daily living.
Growing up, I was immersed in the rich culture of Guyanese cuisine, but I must admit, pepperpot isn't my favorite dish—something I share with many others! Instead, I enjoy the flavors of dahlpari roti, especially those from our Caribbean neighbors in Trinidad. The memories of gatherings with friends and family around a steaming pot of curry or sharing stories by the riverside are what keep my spirits high, even amidst the challenges.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I often reflect on the journeys of my family who sought opportunities abroad, leaving behind a homeland filled with beauty and struggle. I hope to share my experiences and foster discussions about our beloved Guyana, the realities we face, and the vibrant culture that binds us, whether we are at home or far away.
