Living in La Belle Alliance, Pomeroon-Supenaam, I dedicate my days to farming, nurturing the land that has sustained generations of my family. The lush greenery and fertile soil of Essequibo are not just my livelihood; they are deeply intertwined with my identity as a Guyanese. The rhythmic sounds of the Pomeroon River and the aromas of our beloved cook-up rice and fresh fish curry remind me daily of the rich culinary heritage that defines our community.
As a farmer, I embrace the agrarian lifestyle that has been passed down through my ancestors. There's something special about growing food that nourishes not just the body, but also the spirit. I often share my harvest with neighbors at local markets, where the vibrant community spirit shines through. The connections I’ve built within the diaspora are just as meaningful, as we continue to celebrate our unique culture, from the lively chutney music that fills our homes to the festive vibes of Mashramani, no matter where we are.
Though I’ve seen both beauty and challenges within my beloved Guyana, I remain hopeful for a brighter future.
