Hello! I'm Nakesha Williams-Raml, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, specifically from Richmond Housing in the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and rich biodiversity of Guyana has greatly influenced my love for our local culture. From the sweet aroma of cook-up rice wafting through the air during family gatherings to the lively atmosphere at the annual Mashramani celebrations, every moment is a reminder of the warmth and resilience of our people.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I often reflect on the connections we maintain with our homeland, whether it’s through our delicious dishes or the beautiful stories we share. I take pride in our beautiful Essequibo River, which not only nourishes our lands but also serves as a symbol of our community's strength. Despite the challenges we face, like the fluctuating costs of living—sometimes it feels like a handful of greens costs almost two dollars!—we continue to uplift one another and celebrate our unique heritage.
In my daily life, I strive to embody the spirit of being Guyanese, whether I'm engaging with my neighbors or enjoying the simple pleasures of life here. My goal is to foster a sense of unity and pride among us, ensuring that even when we are far from home, we carry the essence of Guyana in our hearts.
