Hello! Iām Akbar, a proud resident of Essequibo 40, nestled in the vibrant community of Parika on the East Bank of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up here, I have a deep appreciation for our lush landscapes, like the winding Pomeroon River, and the rich traditions that define our way of life. Whether it's gathering at the riverside for a cook-up of fresh fish and rice or celebrating Diwali with my Hindu brothers and sisters, these moments truly capture the spirit of Guyana.
Having roots in places like Lower Pom and experiences that take me across regions such as Manawarin and Sting Ray Creek, I carry the essence of our diverse culture wherever I go. The friendships forged with folks from all across the diaspora remind me of the unique blend of influences that make us Guyanese. I often find joy in sharing stories about our local delicacies, from pepperpot to metemgee, as well as our friendly rivalry with our Trinidadian neighbors over the best carnival celebrations!
