Hello! My name is Jodie, and I proudly call Bank Essequibo, located on the East Bank of Pomeroon-Supenaam, my home. As a labourer, I take pride in contributing to my community, which is rich in culture and diversity. Growing up here, I've been surrounded by the vibrant sounds of the rice fields, the sweet aroma of cook-up rice wafting through the air, and the warmth of my neighbors who greet each other with a friendly "How yuh doin’?" It's these small yet significant connections that shape our lives in Guyana.
Being part of the Guyanese diaspora means carrying a piece of my homeland wherever I go. Whether it's talking about our breathtaking landmarks like the majestic Kaieteur Falls or the bustling streets of Georgetown, I love sharing our unique stories with others. I often reminisce about the days spent at local markets, filled with fresh tropical fruits and spices, which remind me of my roots. My heart is full of hope that when I share my experiences, it helps others appreciate what makes Guyana so special, from our delicious pepperpot to our rich Berbice Indian and Afro-Guyanese heritage.
