Greetings! I’m Nathan De Camp, a proud resident of Coast Demerara, living on the vibrant 87 Second Street East in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and the winding rivers, I've developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of Guyana. From the crisp waters of the Pomeroon River to the rich greenery of our fields, it's hard not to fall in love with the charm of my homeland. Even though I sometimes reminisce about clearer waters from trips abroad, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of being at home.
As a local, I take immense pride in our culinary delights, especially our dhal and rice—though I've been known to debate the merits of having it without meat! My kitchen is filled with the fragrant spices and flavors that reflect our rich heritage, and I often share these experiences with friends, showcasing the warmth of our culture. It's these authentic moments that keep our community connected, whether it's gathering for a meal or sharing stories about our beloved homeland, even if some of us have faced challenges with attitudes in recent years.
Connecting with the Guyanese diaspora is incredibly important to me. Whether it's through social media or local gatherings, I love hearing stories of fellow Guyanese exploring life beyond our shores, while still holding our roots close. From the hidden gems of Lower Pom River to sharing heartfelt laughter over a good meal, I believe that no matter where life takes us, our shared experiences and love for Guyana will always bind us together.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
