Hello! I’m Norvanie Rodrigues, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, specifically on Public Road in New Road, Pomeroon-Supenaam. My roots run deep in this beautiful land where the lush green landscape meets the mighty Essequibo River. Growing up here, I’ve savored the delights of our local cuisine, from the mouth-watering pepperpot at family gatherings to the sweet, rich taste of cassava pone enjoyed during festive occasions. Our culture is vibrant, and I cherish the traditions that connect us, whether it’s celebrating Mashramani with colorful parades or gathering for Diwali with delicious sweets and lights.
While I love my home, I also appreciate the connections we share with the Guyanese diaspora. It’s heartwarming to see so many of us spread across the Caribbean and beyond, always eager to celebrate our heritage. I often hear comments from friends and family living abroad, reminiscing about the warmth of our communities and the familiarity of our local dialects. I enjoy engaging in conversations about our unique identity — yes, we’re often considered Caribbean due to our cultural ties, but we’re proudly South American at heart!
