Hello! My name is Oma Preetam, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the heart of the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, my life revolves around family and the vibrant culture that Guyana offers. From the breathtaking views of the Essequibo River to the lush greenery surrounding my community, every day is a reminder of the beauty that fills our land. As a housewife, I embrace the traditions of our rich heritage, cooking up delicious meals like pepperpot and cook-up rice that bring family and friends together, much like our lively gatherings during Mashramani or Phagwah.
As a part of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections we share, whether it's reminiscing about our time in Guyana or celebrating our unique blend of cultures. I often find myself engaging with people from all over the world, answering questions about our nation's diverse languages—predominantly English, but also influenced by our rich history with indigenous and Creole languages. It’s always a joy to explain how we uniquely identify as Caribbean, even though we might not be surrounded by the Caribbean Sea.
In my daily life, I cherish moments spent in my community, whether it's at the local market in Cullen or enjoying a peaceful afternoon by the river. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
