Greetings! My name is Orin Heyliger, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home, specifically in the vibrant Suddie Housing area of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage of Guyana has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our diverse traditions, from the rhythmic sounds of our folk music to the tantalizing aroma of curry and roti that fills our kitchens. I always remind visitors, "You was suppose to eat the roti with curry!"—a simple yet profound truth that speaks to how food connects us.
As a resident of this beautiful region, I am passionate about showcasing the lesser-known treasures of Guyana, including the serene beauty of Lower Pom River and the rich history of Myre Island. I believe that every corner of our nation has a story to tell, and I strive to amplify the voices of those who often feel marginalized. Despite the challenges we face, it's crucial to celebrate our identity and heritage, sharing our experiences with the broader diaspora community.
