Greetings! My name is Ryan Heyliger, and I am proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region, I enjoy the serene beauty of our rivers and lush landscapes. Growing up here, I have been fortunate to relish in the aroma of freshly made pepperpot and the delightful taste of roti and curry shared among family and friends. Living in a place steeped in rich cultural heritage has shaped my identity and instilled in me a deep appreciation for our diverse community, including my fellow Indo-Guyanese.
As a current resident of the Suddie Housing area, I often find myself reminiscing about the festive gatherings during Mashramani and the warm interactions at our local markets. The way we come together, whether it’s for the vibrant celebrations or simply to share stories, echoes the essence of Guyanese life. I have seen our land evolve, especially with the new opportunities arising from our oil wealth. While some see it as a blessing or a curse, I believe it presents a pivotal moment for our country and its future.
Through my experiences, I maintain a strong connection with the Guyanese diaspora. Whether it’s through exchanging stories online or dreaming of reunions at our community events, the bond we share transcends borders. I hope to continue fostering these connections and contribute positively to our community while promoting the beauty and uniqueness of Guyana to those who have yet to experience it.
