My roots run deep in this lush land, where the sounds of the Pomeroon River flow alongside the rich traditions of our communities. Growing up here has instilled in me a profound appreciation for our culture, especially our traditional foods, from the beloved pepperpot to mouthwatering metemgee. Every meal evokes memories of family gatherings and the warmth of sharing our culinary heritage.
Having recently connected with family living in the west side villages, I was reminded of the beauty and diversity of our landscapes. It was a joy to return to Guyana and experience firsthand the stunning nature and unique cultural tapestry that binds us, not only with each other but with our diaspora scattered around the globe. Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana share a unique bond, often overlooked but vital to our identity. While we may face language barriers with neighboring countries, the spirit of our communities continues to thrive.
