Greetings! I’m Paltoo Inder, a proud labourer from the vibrant community of Demerara 11, nestled in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up here, I’ve enjoyed the rich flavors of our local cuisine, from pepperpot to fresh fish curry, and the warmth of our people, who embody the spirit of resilience and hospitality. It’s a place where the Essequibo and Pomeroon rivers flow, embodying the heart of our culture and daily life.
My experience has given me a deep appreciation for the contrasts in our society. While some of us are fortunate to enjoy the comforts of modern living—huge houses and new cars—many in our community face challenges like access to clean water and education. It’s a reality that reminds me of the importance of community support and connection, especially for those of us living far from home, like in New York City or other parts of the diaspora.
As I forge my path in the labour workforce, I carry with me the values instilled by my upbringing—hard work, pride in my heritage, and a commitment to uplift those around me. I believe in the potential of our land, from the fertile soils of Pomeroon to the recycling opportunities that can help us preserve our environment. Together, we can build a brighter future for all Guyanese, near and far.
