Hello! My name is Stephen Da Costa, and I proudly call East Bank Essequibo home. Nestled along the Pomeroon River, my community is a vibrant blend of cultures and traditions. As a labourer, I work hard to support my family while cherishing the simple pleasures of life here. Whether it's sharing a hearty plate of cook-up rice or exploring the breathtaking sights of Church Island, I find joy in the daily rhythms of our lives.
Growing up in Guyana, I learned the importance of community and connection. From the pronunciation of our cherished Essequibo River (Eh-see-quay-boh) to the warmth of our festivals, every moment is a celebration of who we are. I often reminisce about the delicious taste of pomeroon pepperpot and the tranquility of the surrounding nature, which reminds me of our deep-rooted ties to the land.
As I navigate life here on the East Bank, I also carry the spirit of my ancestors and the aspirations of the Guyanese diaspora.
