Greetings! I’m Parmanand Lalman, a proud resident of Bank Demerara Middlesex Canal #2 in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant rivers of the Pomeroon, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our culture, from the rich flavors of our local cuisine—especially a well-made roti—to the lively conversations that echo throughout our communities. I believe that sharing a meal often leads to sharing stories, and nothing brings us together quite like a plate of dhal puri or curry on a Sunday afternoon.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I carry with me the spirit of our country, believing wholeheartedly in the words of 2 Corinthians 5:19: “God was in (Jesus) Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their sins against them.” These words inspire me daily to foster connections and uplift those around me, whether by participating in local events at River Grant Handover Square or engaging with fellow Guyanese wherever I go. We may face challenges, including corruption, which can feel like a cancer within our society, but together, we strive for a better future for our beloved homeland.
My connection to Guyana is not only through the land but also through our shared heritage and values. The Pomeroon River, with its winding banks, serves as a reminder of our roots and the resilience of our people. Whether reminiscing about the scenic views of the Lower Pomeroon or advocating for community initiatives, I remain committed to celebrating our culture and nurturing the bonds that tie us together, both here and abroad.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
