Greetings! My name is Paula Roberts, and I proudly call River Grant Trial in Lower Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Nestled along the banks of the Pomeroon River, our community is rich in traditions and stories that nourish our vibrant culture. Growing up here, I’ve always been surrounded by the lush landscapes and the warmth of people who take pride in our heritage—whether it’s sharing a plate of spicy pepperpot or enjoying a sweet treat of guava cheese during family gatherings.
As a domestic worker, I find joy in caring for others and supporting my community. My roots run deep in this land, where the rhythms of daily life are intertwined with the sounds of the river, from the splashing of fish to the laughter of children playing by the water's edge. The connections I’ve made here, as well as with fellow Guyanese living abroad, remind me of the strength we share as a diaspora, always keeping our culture close to our hearts.
Through all of life’s challenges and triumphs, I believe in the resilience of our people. While some may look back at history with blame, I choose to focus on the rich legacy we continue to build upon. In 2024 and beyond, I hope to inspire others to celebrate our Guyanese identity, whether it be through the tales of the Lower Pom or the unique flavors of our cuisine that we carry with us, no matter where life takes us.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
